Analyst Resource and Capacity Planning

The Analyst, Resource and Capacity Planning role focuses on aligning demand and resource strategies to provide insights into network capacity and capability, while developing planning models and conducting scenario analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, annual, and multi‑year resource planning forecasts, including train and crew starts, locomotive productivity and requirements, track capacity needs, and key performance indicators
  • Analyze operational data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with business performance assumptions
  • Work with business partners to identify trends, support decision‑making, and improve forecast accuracy over time
  • Maintain and enhance planning models, applying strong analytical skills to resolve data or modeling issues and recommend process improvements
  • Conduct ad hoc and scenario analysis to assess incremental growth and capacity impacts, coordinating with cross‑functional teams to confirm supply plans are achievable
  • Produce variance reporting and scorecards comparing corporate targets to the rolling forecast and actual results
  • Collect, validate, and improve data quality, summarizing findings and providing clear insights and recommendations to stakeholders

Qualification

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Economics, Mathematics or a related field
  • 1 - 3 years of relevant work experience; experience in rail, transportation, or supply chain is an asset, but not required
  • Working knowledge of forecasting concepts, including key performance indicators, demand, and supply fundamentals
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced Excel; experience with databases and standard word‑processing tools. Familiarity with SQL is considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to use Excel to manipulate and analyze large data sets
