Associate Power BI Developer (Business Analyst)

Aurizon is Australia’s largest rail freight operator and a top 100 ASX company. They are seeking an Associate Power BI Developer to join their Integrated Planning & Commercial team, focusing on delivering reporting solutions that support decision-making and operational outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain Power BI reporting used by frontline teams through to senior executives
  • Drive quality, usability and consistency across reporting solutions
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical, user‑focused insights
  • Troubleshoot reporting issues, ensuring accuracy and trust in the data
  • Build understanding of operational systems and how their use influences data useability
  • Optimise report performance through effective data modelling, star schema design and pushing data transformations upstream
  • Maintain clear documentation on definitions, assumptions and changes
  • Collaborate with Technology and data engineering teams where needed
  • Explore opportunities to use new Power BI/Fabric features and adjacent tools, such as Power Automate
  • Support some non Power BI improvement initiatives within Bulk & Containerised Freight as required

Qualification

Required

  • A degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems or analytical discipline
  • Experience in an analytical role (using data to drive decisions) or a report creation role. Candidates with limited experience but the right aptitude and motivation will be considered
  • Experience of using at least one language within the Power BI stack: DAX, Power Query (M) and/or SQL
  • Strong Excel skills

Preferred

  • Interest or experience in adjacent tools (Power Automate, Python, AI, etc.)
