Early Career Data Scientist

WSP is a global leader in environmental consulting, focused on protecting and conserving natural landscapes. They are seeking an Early Career Data Scientist to provide technical assistance in the Water and Environmental industries, including data analysis and visualization tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, models, maps and other illustrations for the interpretation and presentation of complex data, findings and analyses.
  • Perform standard quality assurance practices during data ingestion for data acquired directly via public outreach efforts.
  • Collaborate with WSP’s GIS staff to explore and expand upon existing data visualization technologies, such as dashboards and web applications, to provide future ready solutions for clients.
  • Design and support web-based solutions using Esri and Microsoft-based products, such as ArcGIS Online, Power Apps, and Power BI.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams at WSP to execute data analysis and visualizations used in reports for projects of various types and sizes.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualification

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate in Data Sciences.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations.
  • Familiarity with relational database structures and management.
  • Understanding of SQL and Python languages to query through data and automate workflow processes.
  • Highly motivated to learn and utilize new data visualization technologies that can make WSP and its clients future ready.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and expressing ideas professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work schedules that are conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Esri ArcGIS environments.
  • Experience with leveraging Power BI for data visualizations.
  • Power Apps or other workflow automation software.
