Ryder System, Inc. is a leading company in Logistics and Supply Chain Services. They are seeking a Packaging Engineer to develop cost-effective packaging solutions, create guidelines, and collaborate with various departments to ensure packaging meets customer and industry standards.
Develop cost reductions as a result of packaging that is flexible to accommodate multiple products
Create cost justification presentations to review with customer
Develop packaging guidelines in conjunction with industry standards, best practices and customer requirements
Develop sketches specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval
Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine part characteristics to ensure proper development of protective packaging taking safety and special handling into consideration
Maintain returnable container master by supplier
Train and educate customers (internal and external) on program
Ensure packaging can be utilized throughout all processes of the operation
Identify key suppliers to utilize returnable containers to maximize safety, storage, protection and shipping
Right size required product and research alternative container methods; Maximize material handling efficiency
Consult with purchasing and manufacturing departments to determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging
Assist with implementing reusable containers
Provide guidance to purchasing on the supplier cost of the container versus corrugated, wood, etc
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree Packaging Engineering
One (1) year experience Packaging Engineering, required
One (1) year experience working in a team environment, required
Able to read and understand the regulations of the customer, AIAG and OSHA standards
Mathematics, oral and written communication skills; presentation skills; the ability to sell the vision
Ability to create and maintain professional relationships with all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast paced environment
Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized with excellent time management skills
Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices
CAD, Access, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, Visio, Tableau; advanced level
Preferred
data analytics experience utilizing excel for shipment cost saving measures
working knowledge of supply chain/ logistics/ transportation, PFEP knowledge is a PLUS
