Scotiabank is a leading bank in the Americas, and they are seeking an Associate for their US Software Equity Research team. The role involves supporting the research department by analyzing software industry data, drafting research reports, and collaborating with senior analysts while ensuring compliance with regulations.
Support Global Banking & Markets in the U.S. while also occasionally working with other Scotiabank counterparts
Assist Senior Analyst with day-to-day responsibilities including developing and forecasting software company and industry models, maintaining current up-to-date information for software companies and monitoring global technology developments
Review daily news services for relevant information that impacts the macro, software industry specific and company drivers
Gather and analyze data from various sources, including company filings (10K, 10Q), investor presentations, and third-party data providers
Interact with c-suite management of covered software companies to stay informed regarding events that may/will impact performance
Draft research reports which communicate views regarding company specific recommendations (buy, sell, hold). Work closely with Senior Analyst in the launch of new software company coverage as well as the development of new industry and thematic research reports
Partner with other technology sector colleagues and analysts on technology industry reports as well as client and corporate events
Travel within the United States and internationally to software industry events
Assist sales and trading personnel with communications to Scotiabank’s technology investor clients
Facilitate company marketing efforts with technology industry and corporate contacts
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Qualification
Required
A university degree is required, with a preference for business, economics, engineering, computer science/programming
Experience in finance, or at a software vendor, or within a technology ecosystem background is considered essential
Passing the FINRA Series 7, 63, 86 and 87 designations will be required as a function of the role
Strong accounting, financial modeling, and analytical skills will be required
Command of the Microsoft productivity suite, with a particular emphasis on Excel is required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
1-7 years of relevant experience is preferred
A MBA, CPA/CA designation or enrollment in/completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program is an asset
