The Embedded Software Co-op will develop, integrate, verify, and troubleshoot embedded software and firmware for optical transport systems using C/C++, RTOS platforms, ARM processors, and FPGA-based components.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain embedded software and firmware using C/C++ for optical transport systems
  • Design, implement, integrate, and verify real-time embedded solutions from requirements through deployment
  • Support development on RTOS-based platforms, including low-level drivers, interrupt handling, and control firmware
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software with hardware, ARM processors, and FPGA-based components
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues involving software, hardware, optics, and multi-processor architectures

Qualification

Required

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering at an accredited school in the United States
  • Experience developing embedded software in C/C++ on RTOS-based platforms
  • Knowledge of firmware development, interrupt handling, low-level drivers, and timing-critical systems
  • Experience working with ARM processors, hardware interfaces, and multi-processor architectures
  • Familiarity with FPGA/CPLD integration and hardware-software interaction
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and teamwork skills

Preferred

  • Preferred standing: 3rd- or 4th-year undergraduate student or Master's student
  • Experience with embedded Linux or other operating systems used in embedded development
  • Exposure to optical networking, telecommunications, or networking protocols
  • Experience using debugging tools, version control systems, and software development best practices
