American Electric Power generates, transmits, and distributes electricity, serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers. They are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer Associate in Network Engineering to perform engineering and procurement of materials for various projects. This role involves coordinating the installation and activation of projects related to communications for SCADA, metering, and other network requirements.
Provides engineering assistance on TDG Network Engineering projects, including the design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of SCADA networks and systems.
Collaborates with planners, project managers, engineers, inspectors, field operations supervisors, field technicians, external providers, and interconnected transmission and generation customers.
Performs basic and routine infrastructure project assignments.
Assists with planning, researching, evaluating, designing, and developing systems.
Provides basic technical support and assists with analysis, operation, administration, and troubleshooting activities.
Aids in the preparation of cost estimates, justifications, application requirements, alternative solutions, and technical recommendations.
Participates in the preparation of technical documentation, including procedures, manuals, and reports.
Reviews and adheres to budgeting and approval processes while assisting with annual and project planning.
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in computer science, telecommunications, engineering, or related technical field is required for Infrastructure Engineer Associate (SG5).
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required for Infrastructure Engineer (SG6).
No additional experience is required for Infrastructure Engineer Associate (SG5).
2 years of relevant work experience is required for Infrastructure Engineer (SG6).
An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
Preferred
Solid understanding of communications technologies.
Ability to perform routine tasks with minimal guidance from more experienced engineers.
Engineering experience in analyzing and determining appropriate media for telecommunications services at utility sites, including: Fiber, Wireless radio, Microwave, Leased lines, VSAT, Cellular.
Experience in specifying and procuring telecommunications materials according to standard designs.
Experience working with field personnel to commission telecommunications media at utility sites.
General working knowledge of SCADA systems and RTU equipment.
Ability to manage and engineer multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficient PC skills, including: Database input, Spreadsheets, Email.
Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
