They are seeking a Scientific Programmer to support NOAA GFDL in Princeton, NJ, focusing on data dissemination and collaboration with scientists to enhance climate model output analysis.
Fundamental to Intermediate Python programming skills
Experience with Conda a plus
Fundamental to Intermediate Git experience
Experience with NetCDF, S3, etc.
External communications and collaborations with physical scientists and computer scientists, requirements gathering, Help Desk support, process design and documentation for data integrity and data dissemination, and database development.
Leverages existing user-facing data dissemination mechanisms and expands on it to provide seamless data discovery and access to climate model output for efficient data analysis.
Develop data standardization, microservices, and packages for the organization.
Implements unified systems and web portals for metadata collection leveraging data catalogs, databases, data dissemination processes and usage metrics.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate with QA/QC personnel and data engineers to initiate data dissemination protocols.
Co-creates a process for seamless data dissemination, traceability and creditorship of data.

Qualification
Required
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or other related scientific or technical discipline.
Two years of specialized experience in determining information technology effects on the organizational structure and determining the ability that IT can support/meet organizational goals.
With a Master’s Degree (in the fields described above): two years experience.
With a PH.D. (in the fields described above): one year experience.
With at least 8 years of specialized experience, a degree is not required.
Strong fundamental Python Programming skills
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance which requires US Citizenship.
Experience with version control and documentation.
Background in implementing data management strategies and functions data steward roles in partnering with different stakeholders and cross-divisional liaisons in the organization.
Interested in advancing programming skills
Ability to work independently and self direct work.
Background in Help Desk support and directions for serving data.
