The Software Test Engineer I will develop, integrate, troubleshoot, and optimize software applications and automated test environments for mission-critical defense systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and specialized hardware.
Design, code, and integrate object-oriented software applications and test software targeting Windows operating platforms
Develop and derive system-level software requirements, operational specifications, and architectural designs
Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize software applications to ensure rigorous test accuracy, repeatability, and reliability
Collaborate closely with systems, electrical, and mechanical engineers to integrate software test tools with specialized hardware instrumentation
Participate actively in formal design reviews, code peer reviews, and technical defect resolution
Work within structured engineering frameworks applying both Agile and Waterfall development lifecycles
Qualification
Required
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline. Degree must be obtained by start date
Experience developing, testing, or integrating software applications using one or more programming languages, such as C, C++, C#, Python, or Visual Basic (VB/VBA/.NET)
Experience developing, building, and debugging software applications targeting Windows operating systems using the Microsoft Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE)
Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects
Preferred
Demonstrated foundation in software development principles and Object-Oriented Design (OOD/OOP), including encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, and modular class structure
Experience or coursework utilizing C# or modern C++ in an engineering or laboratory test setting
Familiarity with hardware/software interfacing, test automation frameworks, or instrumentation control (e.g., via GPIB, Ethernet, or serial interfaces)
Hands-on exposure to version control tools (such as Git) and Agile software development practices
Strong diagnostic and analytical problem-solving skills applied to complex software/hardware integration issues
