Crown Equipment Corporation is one of the world’s largest material handling companies, known for its award-winning product design and advanced engineering. They are seeking a Content Designer to advocate for users by creating clear and effective product content, collaborating with various teams to ensure a cohesive user experience.
Advocate for the operator and help shape product experiences by crafting copy that helps users complete the task at hand. Set the tone for content and drive cohesive product narratives across multiple platforms and touchpoints (display, manuals, and labels). As the resident wordsmith, work cross functionally with a variety of roles including researchers, engineers, training, marketing, and product safety to help ensure connective language and a unified voice.
Content Creation and Information Design - Conceptualize, write, and edit simple, straightforward, and human experiences by leveraging expertise in user experience design, design thinking, product strategy and writing. Create and shape great, intuitive instructions and in-product messaging for our users. Understand and incorporate corporate content strategy, brand positioning, and terminology into all content. Contribute to projects in ways that enhance the clarity and usability of product experiences. Learn and develop understanding of product operation, design intent, approval processes, and requirements needed for translations. Attention to detail to evaluate, implement, uphold, and champion content style and standards that reflect an operator-centric voice.
Information Gathering and Examination - Work with global stakeholders, to address the needs of global audiences and meet approved market regulatory standards. Work cross functionally with multiple departments, including Design and Engineering, to gather accurate, detailed information needed. Examine and understand operation to create the best possible information to instruct safe operation. Improve and reorganize existing content as features and updates are added.
Task Management, Tracking and Approval - Utilize software (Adobe WorkFront) to track task and project progress. Follow development process using organizational structure to support content completion. Facilitate project completion by utilizing computer hardware and software.
Content Support and Accuracy - Explore and maintain knowledge of design software tools to develop, organize, and manage information. Participate in continuous information improvement focusing on how content is prioritized, organized, and accessed. Maintain a strong working knowledge of structured and unstructured content for static and dynamic delivery, metadata, and taxonomies. Working knowledge DITA/XML and content management tools to ensure consistency and reuse across content and various output media. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification
Required
Associate degree in English, Communication Design, Technical Writing, or related
2 years related experience
Strong writing skills exhibited by work samples (Include portfolio link with application)
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to quality
Proficient with computers, ideally experience with Mac
Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, InCopy and other relevant design tools
Content Management software experience
Familiarity with project management platform, ideally Adobe Workfront
Reliable transportation to travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday
Ability to occasionally travel with overnight stays (0-5%)
Preferred
Related Bachelor’s degree
Strongly prefer 4 or more years related experience
