Birmingham City Council is seeking a Service Designer to join their Product function, focusing on designing and improving services for residents, businesses, and colleagues. The role involves working in multidisciplinary teams to create user-centered, accessible public services and contributing to the design of end-to-end services.
Contributing to the design and improvement of end‑to‑end services, working under the guidance of senior practitioners
Supporting discovery, research and design activities to understand user needs and service problems
Helping to map services, identify pain points and co‑design improved experiences with users and colleagues
Working closely with product managers, developers, researchers and service teams in multidisciplinary environments
Applying user‑centred design methods to help teams test ideas, learn quickly and improve services iteratively
Championing accessible, inclusive and human‑centred design principles
Learning from feedback, data and evidence to continuously improve your practice
Contributing to the wider design and product community by sharing learning and supporting collaborative ways of working
Qualification
Required
Demonstrable experience or exposure to service design, user‑centred design or related practice
An understanding of working in agile environments as part of multidisciplinary teams
Strong design skills, communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence to collaborate and contribute ideas
A thoughtful and reflective approach, willing to challenge assumptions and learn from evidence
A commitment to designing services and products with the user experience at the centre
