Garmin manufactures marine, aviation, and consumer technologies suitable to run on positioning systems. They are seeking a full-time User Interface Designer 2 responsible for creating compelling User Interface experiences and leading small to medium sized projects. The role involves collaborating on design solutions, mentoring junior designers, and staying current with design trends.
Creates compelling User Interface design options based on existing design languages
Has thorough working knowledge of Garmin product lines and their associated technologies for projects they are assigned
Has thorough understanding of competitive products/markets for projects assigned
Active contributor in concepting, mockups, researching design trends, moodboards, interactive prototypes, animating storyboards, and feasibility of design
Documents/catalogs icons, fonts, and other graphics in an organized manner for future use and continuity of design across Garmin product families
Able to find root cause and provide solutions for moderately complex problems
Works under general supervision of Creative Lead while managing own projects and leading small-to-medium projects
Collaborates/provides feedback through participation in User Interface design reviews
Good working knowledge of User Interface design process and how it fits into the overall Garmin product development process
Presents new ideas to the Creative Lead and/or user experience teams
Can manage basic tradeoffs on User Interface design with engineering requirements and user experience while involving the Creative Lead and/or Lead designers as needed
Mentors User Interface Designer 1 and Production Artists and fosters a team culture of creativity, quality and dialog
Remains current on traditional graphics design skills and has knowledge on upcoming User Interface design trends
Good knowledge of new design tools and techniques
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design/Visual Communication AND a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
Proficient knowledge of industry and Garmin-related User Interface design standards
Demonstrates proficiency designing for interactive/on-screen product interface
Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be flexible and able to work independently or in a team in a fast-paced environment
Must demonstrate strong organization skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Advanced knowledge of required programs: primarily Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Figma
Preferred
Experience in Visual Communications or Graphic Design
