Michigan Medicine is a health care system and academic medical center that provides medical education and more. They are seeking a full-time UX Designer to support the development of a digital health tool aimed at assisting caregivers of individuals with opioid use disorder, collaborating closely with addiction researchers and project managers to design and implement user-centered web interfaces.
Lead UX research and design strategy for a responsive web-based intervention tailored to caregivers of individuals with OUD.
Collaborate with researchers to conceptualize the site structure, content strategy, design system, and interaction flow.
Collaborate with the team statistician to support the integration of front-end and back-end technologies for effective data collection, management, and analysis.
Collaborate with the project manager and data analyst to integrate a REDCap database and Twilio for automated text message nudges.
Translate educational and behavioral intervention content into engaging, user-centered web interfaces.
Support the development of front-end web pages using HTML/CSS and assist in collaborating with developers or consultants on JavaScript or framework integrations.
Assist with the development of short educational videos that will be embedded into the mobile application.
Assist with usability testing, accessibility review, and iterative prototyping based on feedback.
Ensure the design aligns with research goals, human subject protocols, and privacy/security standards.
Attend regular team meetings, provide design updates, and contribute to documentation and dissemination efforts (e.g., user manuals, research publications)
Qualification
Required
Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Public Health, Graphic Design, or Computer Science) with some applied design/programming experience either through internships, coursework, or ideally a full-time position.
2-3 years experience
Strong skills in wireframing, prototyping, and visual design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch).
Experience applying human-centered design principles to digital products.
Familiarity with front-end development (HTML, CSS); basic understanding of R, Python, or SQL is a plus.
Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and iterate based on user feedback and team collaboration.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
1-3 years of software design experience.
Experience working on digital health interventions or behavior change technologies.
Knowledge of REDCap, Twilio, or similar tools.
Academic or professional interest in substance use, pain, or behavioral health research.
Prior experience with usability testing and accessibility standards.
Familiarity with integrating research tools into digital products (e.g., surveys, data collection systems).
Experience and/or familiarity with the IRB and data safety and monitoring compliance processes.
