General Dynamics Electric Boat is expanding its User Experience (UX) design initiatives within the Information Technology Software Engineering Group. The UX/UI Designer will focus on developing user-centered designs for mobile and desktop applications, collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure usability and accessibility standards are met.
Assist in developing high-fidelity prototypes, wireframes, and user flows to help customers visualize new features and system modifications, focusing on clarity for complex processes.
Maintain and organize design assets, specifications, and documentation, ensuring that all materials adhere to established Design Systems
Help plan and conduct basic usability tests and interviews with internal users
Work with Project Management, Business Analysts and Technical Personnel to translate detailed requirements into practical interfaces
Actively participate in design critiques with both internal and external stakeholders and iterate on designs based on constructive feedback
Qualification
Required
Bachelor’s degree in either UX Design, Visual Communication Design (VCD), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science or Communication
1-5 Years experience designing User Experiences (UX) and User Interfaces (UI) for mobile and desktop applications
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance
Preferred
Familiarity with WCAG 2.1+ Accessibility Standards

Foundational proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g. Adobe CC Suite, Adobe XD, Figma)
Experience or strong interest in designing for enterprise software, data visualization, and back-end systems.
Experience or knowledge of Agile development methodologies
Foundational knowledge of the software development process
Foundational understanding of design principles for Graphical User Interfaces (GUI), including hierarchical relationships, color theory, typographical concepts, and responsiveness
General awareness of the latest UX trends and technologies
Solid grasp of user-centered research, design, and testing methods
Ability to clearly and concisely articulate design rationale, process, and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholder, including senior management and subject matter experts
Genuine commitment to understanding the needs of the end-user (many of whom will have minimal technical training) and the ability to work patiently within established government processes and timelines.
Ability to quickly learn complex logistical concepts and adapt design solutions to fit changing needs
Meticulous review and adherence to accessibility and design best practices and willingness to iterate on designs to maintain them
Team-oriented mindset and willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary team
