GE Vernova is a company focused on building a world that works, and they are seeking a Substation Automation and Protection Engineer. This role involves engineering and field services for Substation Automation Systems and Protection/Control panels, while coordinating with various teams to ensure project milestones are met and customer satisfaction is achieved.
Take ownership of the engineering and field services for Substation Automation Systems, including DCS and RTU
Handle the engineering and field services for Protection, Control, and Tele-Protection panels
Lead and develop the technical team by providing training, mentorship, and day-to-day technical support
Analyze customer requirements and specifications, and propose innovative, cost-effective technical solutions
Design substation LAN networks and communication architectures, and configure industrial Ethernet switches, routers, and satellite clocks/time synchronization systems
Participate with the Project Manager in meetings with customers, end users, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
Support project planning to help ensure key milestones are achieved according to the project schedule
Follow the department’s standard design processes and contribute to their continuous improvement
Support Sales and Tendering teams
Prepare and deliver customer training sessions, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronics, Control, or Communications Engineering, or a closely related technical field from an accredited institution
Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in the Testing and Commissioning of Protection Relays and DCS (IEC 61850) for electrical power substations HV/EHV
Knowledge of sequencing and interlocking principles used in substation automation and their implementation on IEC 61850 IEDs
Working knowledge of communication and automation protocols such as IEC 61850, MODBUS, IEC 60870-5-101/104, T103, and SNMP
Good understanding of IT/OT networking; CCNA certification or equivalent is preferred
Skills in MS Office
Ability and willingness to travel within and outside the country without limitations, as required
Fluency in English and Arabic (oral, reading, and writing)
Preferred
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to lead technical teams and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
Solid understanding of Egypt-specific customer solutions and product specifications
Strong analytical capability to quickly understand challenges and guide effective, customer‑focused solutions
Proven problem‑solving skills with a focus on innovative and creative solutions that support profitability and market growth
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders
Confidence in presenting technical information and delivering training to varied audiences
Experience working with Egyptian utilities, oil & gas customers, EPCs, OEMs, and system integrators
Proactive, energetic, and collaborative work style with a strong team orientation
Fast learner with a strong interest in adopting new technologies and continuously enhancing technical capabilities
Strong time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and respond positively to urgent or changing requirements
